IS A CONSTRUCTION TERMITE PRE-TREAT NECESSARY?

There are many important details when building a new home or business from deciding what style, exterior and interior finishes, and the list goes on. One that is not seen but very important is making sure the necessary steps are taken to prevent a termite invasion in your new home or business. Termites cause millions of dollars’ worth of damage to homes and businesses each year and new builds aren’t exempt.

Your new home or business will be treated against termites during the initial construction process to block the concealed access of subterranean termites to the structure. This establishes a horizontal barrier of insecticide treated soil directly beneath the building. It is applied to the soil just before the concrete is poured for a slab foundation and before any plastic vapor barrier is installed. It is critical that the soil be treated before the slab is poured.

Although the pre-treat is a great start in preventing termite, you will need to continue preventative measures post construction. The treatment process will consist of treating the soil surrounding your home or business to continue creating a protective soil barrier against termites that may pass through or under the treated soil areas.
