The Silent Destroyer

Do you have the silent destroyer living in your home quietly working away at thousands of dollars in damage? Termites are called “the silent destroyer” for a reason.

They secretly hide and thrive in your home without any signs of damage whatsoever. A typical termite colony is made up of hundreds of thousands to a million swarmers, soldiers, and workers that will cause serious damage to your home or business.

How can these tiny pests cause so much damage? They are the model of survival and work together to gather the needed resources to survive – food, water, and shelter.

Swarmers are larger, mature termites with wing buds. They leave the nest by flying through the classic termite mud tube connecting underground colonies to food sources like wood materials in houses. Their only purpose is to leave the colony during the swarming season to find mates and establish new colonies through reproduction.

Soldiers are responsible for defending the nest. They are well-equipped to battle colony invading insects, especially their number one enemy, the ant. They communicate danger to the colony by banging their heads against tunnel walls to create vibrations. They also assist workers in repairing tunnels and building new ones.

Worker termites repair and maintain work on the tubes and care for the queen and eggs. The older workers are mostly responsible for foraging for food away from the main nest.

If you wait for visible signs of a termite infestation, the damage is probably already done or well on its way. Don’t wait, contact Terminator Termite and Pest Control today to schedule a termite inspection, 479.783.6200.
